What is career coaching?

Career coaching is a one-on-one process which enables you to understand and make best use of your skills, motivations, values, interests and achievements in order to manage your career and maximise your capability.

It provides a forum for confidential, supportive discussion to allow you to work on your specific career challenges and to bridge the gap between where you are now and where you would like to be.  It is a powerful way of unlocking your potential.

Who is it for?

Career coaching is for anyone wanting to maximise their career satisfaction.  We specialise in working with professional women at middle management level, who are either at a career crossroads and may be considering changing career, or who need help achieving their next career step.  Whether that be a promotion within their own organisation or making the move to another organisation.  Some of our clients feel like they are hitting a glass ceiling.  Some are looking to return to the workforce after an absence, such as maternity leave. We work with a variety of clients with different career objectives.

How does it work?

Our career coaching is tailored to your needs.  We can work with you in-person in London or via Skype.  Sessions typically last between 1.5 hours and 2 hours each and depending on your needs we can offer a one-off session to target a specific objective or you may wish to sign up to one of our packages, which are each based around a structured process.

In between coaching sessions you will work on self-paced exercises to help distill insights.

How long does it take?

The process will vary in duration depending on your needs. Sometimes clients see us for a one off session, such as for help pulling together their LinkedIn profile or CV, or preparing for an interview.  A typical 4-stage career change coaching programme will take anywhere between 7 and 12 weeks to complete.

We work with you to gain new perspectives on your career, what has been holding you back in the past, and how to forge new strategies where relevant.  To do this well takes time.  And it takes effort on your part.  We want you to feel that you have a solid foundation for making the right career choices that follow.  Some clients shift gears rapidly after our programmes and others plan for a 6 – 12 month transition process. Each client’s situation is unique.

Do you use psychometric assessments?

Yes, where it is helpful to your situation.

As registered psychologists we are fully qualified to administer a wide range of psychometric assessments to raise your awareness and to provide insights to help your career choices.  This includes personality questionnaires, motivation and values questionnaires as well as aptitude assessments.  The choice to use these will be made in conjunction with yourself.  If we think they will be helpful for you we will discuss this with you.  However, we don’t use psychometric assessments in every case.  Not every client needs this and we are always wary about putting people ‘in boxes’ when we are looking to broaden ideas and thinking.

A psychometric will never tell you which job you should do – and you should beware of career coaches who claim they can offer you this!  This is not realistic in a world where work changes at such a rapid pace. Psychometrics will simply provide another input to help you identify your strengths and motivators which in turn can be used to help identify the sort of environments that you might enjoy.

How do I get started?

If you’d like to find out more about whether this process might be for you, then do get in touch.  We will start with a free call, up to 30 minutes, to discuss your needs and recommend the best solution for you. This recommendation will include a specific number of sessions and the associated cost.

After that we will work with your availability to schedule the first session and get going!
